Zelda for Gamecube
Spaceworld 2001

August 23, 2001

Spaceworld 2001 has  begun, and as every Nintendo fan was expecting Nintendo showed first real footage of the Gamecube Legend of Zelda game, a moment we were all expecting with great anticipation.

To our surprise what Miyamoto presented at the conference was, well, different from what we have seen in the previous Ganondorf Vs. Link videos.

If you look at the (low quality, sorry for that) pictures of the presentation you will immediatelly notice that this new Zelda footage has no resemblance at all with the previous Zelda Demo we have praised all these months.

Miyamoto has decided to give the game a complete different approach. Just take a look::

Alright. now that you are on the floor wondering what the hell happened to the game let me explain. Shigeru  Miyamoto decided to give the game a cartoony look so it could match his ideas.

I must admit that for a second (alright, for an hour) I was really shocked by the news.  Now that I have taken my time to assimilate the change, and after watching the video I must say that the game looks really promising. I really ask you to download the video because only in motion will you be able to appreciate what Miyamoto is trying to do. This new approach definitelly opens infinite possibilities. I think it´s quite clear that Miyamoto wants to get rid of the limitations of reality and give the game a sense of fantasy that no other game has ever had.  If you watch the video you will see that Miyamoto is also givin it a retro look, the resemblance to "A Link to the Past" is extremelly atractive.

Watch the movie and decide. I´m pretty sure once you get rid of the old image you had of the Zelda for Gamecube and accept the new look you will start to love it, just the way I love it right now.

This is gonna be pure, old school Zelda!
How can you not be excited about this game?

Is Miyamoto insane? No way, he´s a genious. He´s an artist. He has the greatest videogame system to work on but he´s not expecting to reach the higest levels of realism, instead he´s targeting to the greatest Legend of Zelda experience. If he decided to make such huge changes to the game it means his ideas are greater than we can imagine.

This is gonna be pure, old school Zelda! How can you not be excited about this game?
