Letters
November 2000 (Part
1)
PS2 opinions, little cows, alien abductions, not golden for europeans
and more in this latest edition of somewhat appealing letters...
Zelda comic, PS2 and "It's real..."
Hey HTLOZ,
First of all, I do want to say that I've been coming to your
site for a while now, and I think that you guys really do a great
job! But, I was wondering, whatever happened to the Zelda &
Link Comic? I thought that was pretty cool at the time, but it
seems to have vanished.
And also, I've seen some demos from Gamecube and somer videos
from PS2, and personally, I think Gamecube's graphics are at
least twice as good as any current PS2 game. Is it worth the
extra year to wait for Gamecube? I'd appreciate your opinions!
Finally, I just recently bought a copy of Majora's Mask, and
I was unbelievably amazed to find that I had gotten a collectors
edition! Then I found out my friend got a collectors edition!!
Then my other friend got a collector's edition! Then my friend's
2 friends got a collectors edition.
Then his friend got the collector's edition... And so on. Is
it just luck that I keep seeing collectors editions or are there
even ANY gray copies of Majora's mask?!
Because after a certain point, I would assume the collector's
edition name would lose it's meaning, eh?
And the last thing, I really think you guys should make a category
on your site for only the people who assume the ITS
REAL section really is real! It would be so entertaining!
Phew... I've ranted on for a bit haven't I? If you made it this
far, I'm pleasantly surprised!
Well.. keep up the great work! Efehan
Wasn't half of this letter here last
week? Anyway, I'm not 100% sure about the cart issue, because
Zelda's released here tomorrow (17th Nov), and I imported my
gold copy. I believe collecters editon means that the cart has
a 3D Label.
Oh, yeah, the collectors
edition...I have never seen a grey cartidge of Adventure Of Link
either. We all have the golden one!
Oh, by the way, I'm trying to find the pentaforce in OoT. Hey!
Here it is! I will go and put it to the "It's Real!"
section.
Hmmm the Comic, yeah...
Well, personally I must say that I don't like PS2, not even a
slight thing of it. And YES! Gamecube will look even better when
we see the first games. Is it worth the extra year?? YES!!!
I would like to see a gray MM, I mean an american MM. Maybe the
gray catridge (if you find one) is the special edition!! heh
heh
You don't know how much we laugh at the editorial reading mails
like "I know your "it's real it's real" section
is fake! who do they think we are? stupids??" hahaha
The It's Real It's Real is my favorite
section also. Maybe we will update once someone finds the tri-force
in Majora's Mask. ;)
Little cows everywhere
Hey, how are you? I am just writing
to ask a few questions, make a few comments, etc. Anyway...as
I was playing Majora's Mask, I noticed the little cow statues
(boxes?) in certain areas of the game. They look cute and all,
but do they serve a purpose? Hm.....
Oh, yeah,
I must also question this: When heading toward the swamp, usually
near the drawing of Skull Kid and his two faeries, I hear a soft
mooing.
I plant a few bombs around the area, but no grotto is revealed.
If you would look into this, I'd appreciate it.
Lastly, just a little discovery: In the Observatory, where the
scarecrow is, there are jars on the ground. You can break them
and find a cute little picture of, what appears to be, a dolphin.
But you probably knew that already. ;)
Well, if you take the time to read all of my rambling, I'd appreciate
it. By the way, your site is my favorite. I love the set-up,
and the purple color is great! (yeah, a little late on this,
but oh well) Keep up the good work. Steph
Those cows are nice, right? I think they
serve as lamps, but I'm not sure. But what I think is that everything
has something to do with cows! The milk bar, the cows everywhere,
milk, the cow mask, well, romani mask and obviously those little
cows. I love them, but they really have a purpose? That's what
I want to know.
Regarding the
"mooing" you talk about: Place a bomb beneath the log
shaped like a tunnel and a grotto will appear.
Problems in the Head...
I mean, Snowhead!
Hi, I like very much your site,
but even with the help of your walkthrough i have problems with
the ice palace on the snowhead. Acctually, only to get the fire
arrows. After i got the first key and went up to the big room
with columns I found the second key and went to this room with
an ice block and buttons (or switches) In this room with switches,
You say i have to step on the big switch with my Goron Link and
then jump, but the Goron Link don't jump, and the switch doesn't
goes down. Nothing moves. I'm stuck there and dont know what
to do... can you please help me...
thank you in advance... Martin Pelletier
Goron Stomp: Hold A, press B.
Please, before asking
anything, FIRST read your instruction manual, they give it to
you for something! SECOND, try as much as you can (days and weeks
would be perfect), and THIRD check the walkthrough, if you still
can't find the answer then ask. That way you will really enjoy
the game.
Astronomers among us
I might be crazy but if you go
to Romani Ranch right by the barn and look up at night you can
see the Big/Little Dipper and Orion! Also, one of the stars that
make Orion's 'hand' is red! But if you look to left so that the
star is on the right side of your screen it turns blue! I just
decided to point that out.... Anifan20007
I've
gotta check that out!
Oh, yeah, yesterday I looked at the sky
and I saw the stars and moon with happy smily faces singing "Lucy
In The Sky With Diamonds"! I must leave LSD...
That is really cool! Thanks for sharing!
I hate PS2
Hey Blazer whats up.So you dont
like PS2.Guess what.I hate it.Thats right, every time I go to
school theres someone talking about PS2 is the the bomb.PPPSSSSHHH
YEAH RIGHT.Like a bomb its gonna drop. I know I cant cuss....Hold
it back Francisco hold it back.1,2,3,4,5,6,7...ok Dragons better.Sorry.I
read that you dont like it eather when I read this letter asking
you if the person should buy PS2 or wait for GameCube.Sorry but
its rocket science here ok.Let me answer the guys question. The
PS2 costs $299.00.As soon as GameCube comes out Dreamcast is
putting there price to $99.00(So Ive herd). And GameCube is going
to cost $150.00 .Ok On my caculations you can get to system for
the price of one.Im sorry GameCube and Dreamcast are still lower
than PS2.And both systems are better than PS2.(Espeacually GameCube). So
here my answer Buy the Dreamcast now and wait for GameCube or
buy the Dreamcast when when they lower it and buy GameCube.Thats
all.And whoever hasnt seen the graphics for GameCube check Zelda
for the GameCube here at HTLOZ.They have the best pics.See ya.Keep
up the Great work HTLOZ. Dragon (Francisco
Gutierrez)
My friends are all PS2 nuts nowadays,
so when I asked them what games they were looking forward to,
I wasn't suprised to find that they're all coming out on multiple
consoles; Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid 2 etc. PS2 will fall.
Yeah, well, I played the PSX2
(Japanese) and the only game I liked was Tekken Tag. The DVD
player was preety bad too, I tryed my Ghost in the Shell DVD
with the owner of the shop and the DVD had serious problems while
displaying some parts.
Are you reading my
mind? Buy a Dreamcast now, don't and I repeat, don't buy a PS2,
because it's BAD. Just look at the games!! Fantavision?? what
the hell is that?
Buy it now for only 1 or 2 good games, when I can buy a Dreamcast
(cheaper) with great games (a lot!!)??
My choice is to have fun with my N64, a Dreamcast and wait for
the Gamecube, I know it will be awesome!
Thanks! Well, I agree. I don't
like PS2 and I think GameCube and DreamCast will and are better.
Some gamers don't like "spoiling
themselves"
dear htloz:
I'm a great fan of your website. Thanks to your info. on Majora's
Mask, I managed to get the game. I didn't spoil myself, so don't
worry. So now, I'll pay you back. I hope this won't disturb you
in a way cause a fan is giving you info. You see the Oni-Link
mask, I managed to get its real name: "Fierce Deity's Mask"
I hope you know, I didn't make it up just in case if you think
so. My proof is in the nintendo power's players guide to see
it yourself. thankyou very much, hopefully you'll thank me too!
lots of fandom and love,
from your pal, Michelle
spoil yourself? I don't even want to
think what that means!
Thanks!
The Mysterious tree... (no, not the
fruity one!)
This isn't really a bug or a
glitch, i guess it's just a mistake nintendo made. In Ocarina
of Time, go to Kakriko Village as an adult and take a look at
the tree at the entrance from Hyrule Field. It's different than
the other trees. Then, beat the first three temples. Come back
and watch the cutscene.
The tree looks normal. Also, you can put on you Iron Boots before
you go in and see Link run in them. It looks pretty funny.
P.S. Your site is THE best Zelda site there is! JAGEYER
Good
lord, you have the world's greatest attention span!
I noticed that too. But TOoT
is now the past, MM is present. :)
Our music choice is...
Hi, I just wanted to know if that song is Nightwish's "Passion And The Opera"...
(a finnish gothic/progressive metal band). If it is really that
song, well... that is a perfect combination of two world's wonders!!!
Zelda, and Nightwish... ahhhhhh... aloha... the paradise!
(and if it is not that song, well... wherever you found it, it
is EXACTLY the same!)
And by the way, congratulations for your site! It is truly AWESOME! Dany
It
is Nightwish. So your dream has come true. Enjoy!!
Gerudo's horse
Hi! I am writing because of a mistake in your "Mysteries"
section of the Zelda games, Zelda:Ocarina of Time. One of your
solved mysteries is the horse in Gerudo Valley, and in your explanation
you proclaim that even though the horse looks exzctly like the
other horse you could have ridden at Lon Lon ranch, it is imposible
for it to be that horse. I beg to differ since, if you listen
carefully to what the Gerudo who runs the horseback archery game
says, He states that most Gerudo horses are stolen from other
people. Therefore, the horseback archery horse could in fact
be the horse from Lon Lon ranch.
Thanks for listening! ~Alia
Woooh...Gerudo's are evil. I
wander if they really stole it or if it...forget it ;)
A clever answer
How do you get into the village
of outcasts in the dark world? Thanks bcarney2
Walk.
Where did this come
from?
Where did all those pictures come from? I know the animation
and the screenshots, but all these cartoons, the dark art, what
are they?
Please mail me back! Will Coleman
That is a mystery man
was not supposed to know
The Dark Art is drawn by Wolfhang Van
Kraus. And the screenshots...frankly, I dunno. (maybe Blazer
knows something)
*points at Wolfhang* Wolfy draws them.
Shen mue... oh no he
said the magic word!!!
Dear HTLOZ,
I have been visiting the site since Zelda 64 (toot)came out (looked
for triforce rumors...hehe...Arianna) and appreciate what you
have given to the zelda community. I am a Nintendo "Supporter"
(own nes, snes, gbc, and 64) as well as a SEGA "Supporter"
(genesis, SATURN, and DC). I made the jump to dreamcast last
yr because I knew that the Nintendo 64 couldn't offer me anything
new when it came to a gaming experience (ZELDA TOOT....ZELDA
MM....GOLDENEYE....PERFECT DARK). THAT IS NOTHING NEGATIVE TOWARDS
NINTENDO, ITS JUST THAT I WANTED A BRAND NEW EXPERIENCE AND...SOME
FIGHTING AND SPORTSGAMES...we all know the story when it comes
to n64 and fighting games...and sports, please compare nba live
2000 to NBA 2K!!! BUT TO THE POINT, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON
SHENMUE FOR DREAMCAST??? Made by shigeru miyamoto's only equal,
yu suzuki. i know zelda 64 is a harder game and longer, but shenmue
has given me an experience like no other...just want some of
your opinions on shenmue...later Lawrence Narvaez
Miyamoto,
equal, Ahahahahahaha!
Shenmue...yeah, I read something
about it. Sorry, I haven't played it, but it looks great. Man,
I love RPGs.
Shenmue looks a lot like Parasite Eve, and I loved PE, so I guess
I love Shenmue too!
Oh no... Shenmue...Shenmue.
I have a serious feeling that FX will explode with this question.
Ok, the game looks incredible good! It is a great game. It's
big, well done, superb music, a lot of interactions, you really
want me to continue? heh
A Dreamcast can
handle this kind of incredible games?? wow!! And PS2 has serious
problems? hmmm....go Dreamcast!
I just bought it a few days ago
actually. And I love it! It is the best game for Dreamcast! My
gosh! The graphics, the gameplay, the story! The only thing I
don't like, is the controls.
Oh
man, please don't ask me that, you know how much I love those
kind of wonderful games!!!! PLEASE SOMEBODY STOP ME NOW BEFORE
I START SPEAKING OF THAT GAME!!!
(The staff of this site jumps on Htloz editor Falco-X to prevent
him from speaking wonders of this Sega game on a Zelda-Nintendo
site)
Some people just don't know
Hello, I did not know who this may concern, so i am emailing
the first email on the page. If this is the wrong people to email,
would you be so kind to foward it to the right person? There
are three (or so i think) Zelda games that are released that
are not on your website. They were not for any nintendo system,
but for a little know system called the CDI. This system from Philips (Smart Very Smart)
was a cool system, but bombed because of little advertising.
I own one of the Zelda games for it, and you are Zelda herself.
The name of it is Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon. This is the back
of the box
text :
When King Harkinian vanishes on a mission to save Gamelon, Link
takes off to rescue him. But soon Link is also missing, and Zelda
must free them both from their evil captors. This fast paced
action adventure game features 70 playfields, including palaces,
forests, swamps, and a mysterious fairy pool.
An awesome array of 90 amazing characters will talk to you in
full animation. Con-Front Sword-Wielding Stalfos, Floating Ghini,
dreaded Dodongos, pinching Gohma, and much more. You'll have
a blast smashing your
enemies into utter disgrace!
That is it...
Also the other games for the CDI in the Zelda series are Zelda's
Adventure
(i do not own) and Link: The Faces of Evil.
Well, thanks for your time, cyas! Psyco
(Please
people, understand. He was so inspired speaking on these games
that I just could't interrupt his speech)
It can be a possibility
Dont you guys think that 'dolphin'
picture in the observatory actually looks pretty much exactly
like the 'wind fish' from GB zelda?
A much more logical conclusion than yours was i reckon :)
Seems to make even more sense to me when you take into account
that there are other references such as one of the performers
telling you "the ballad of the wind fish is the greatest
song ever composed" etc
Nice site by the way :) ninge1
In the milk bar you actually get to play
the ballad of the wind fish.
Funny, a song you heard in a
dream is the best composition ever. Weird, really weird...maybe
they have telepathic powers.
It's a dolphin, I
repeat, it's a dolphin!
I am almost positive it is advertising
the Zelda for Gamecube!
We'll
let people decide on that one. Your argument is valid. Thanks.
The poor tree at the end of Majora's
Mask
Hello, I just beat Majora's Mask yesterday :) What a great game.
But there was one thing that bugged me. In the ending the bulter
is leaning over in front of that deformed tree link encounters
before he enters Termina.
What exactly is he doing? This has been getting on my nerves
for a day or two now and I was wondering if anyone at your site
had some knowledge on this matter.
Thanks Wedge
Well someone's gotta feed the poor tree!
We'll
talk about that in a future edition. For the moment we are going
to let people get their own conclusions. Thanks for the letter.
Shoot the aliens, save
the cows!
I have already looked in your walkthrough for this. ITS not there.
Is there any specific way to save the COWs from being abducted
or is it just hard work because I cant save them, one always
gets past. Please help if there are any strategies for this. cr_arrowhead
1) I found it quite tricky, but
guard the barn on foot with your bunny hood and bow, and don't
forget to protect the back of the barn too.
2) You need practice,
in fact it is very easy. Just look at the map and watch out for
the white spots moving, those are the ghosts. Be careful, at
the back of the barn there are ghosts too. Don't ride Epona,
it will be harder, go on foot, use your bunny hood and shoot
with your arrows!
3) Go to the ranch on the first
day and use the powder keg to bomb the rock at the enterence.
Then wait 'til nighttime and when the aliens come, use your arrows
and shoot them until the sun comes up. If you keep them away
from the barn, you get something special!
Plot holes between OoT and MM?
There is way too much missing
from the storyline (at least for me) and I was hoping you could
help fill in some plot holes along the road between Ocarina of
Time and majora's Mask.
First of all, where does Ganondorf end up? I mean, when Link
is sent back seven years, I am guessing he remembers everything
that happened, otherwise he would never seek out Zelda and the
Navi. But does everything 'unhappen'? Why wouldn't the Ganondorf
that lived in that time (the first of the seven years) rise to
power? I know that the gates to the sacred realm would never
be oppened, giving him access to the triforce, but the best solution
for what happens here I can think of is that Zelda, Link, and
Ganon(dorf) are the only ones affected by the travel back in
time. Everyone else just acts as though it never happened, and
Link actualy returns to the exact time he origianly opened the
gate, that way Ganondorf wouldn't still be lurking around Hyrule,
he would be sealed in the Sacred Realm. I want to know if that
fits into the story or if you can give me a better (more complete/compliant
with existing storyline) theory.
I think with that question asked (and answered) pretty much everything
else will be explained before me.
Thanks a ton for your help! HTLOZ rules! The M0urning §ta*
The Sacred Realm is not part of Hyrule's
time, so if Ganon is locked in there in one time, his locked
there in all time. Like being erased from history.
This one is new...
hello i found a code.
1. in the castle courtyard where you talk to Zelda go to the
window on the left.
2. get the slingshot out and shoot the window.
it also works on the other window. i'll let it surprise you of
what happens.;) bye.:] Deborah
w-o-w.... isn't that old?? Next letter
please (heh)
Yep
No Golden, no 3D label...
Hello there, Firstly I would like to say your site is great!
I am would also like to thank you for at least attempting to
acquire information on launches in other countries, you are probably
one of the only sites to offer information
on launches for other countries. Just incase you want to add
some more information to your European launch, there will be
no gold cart and no 3-D label..... just gray as with ocarina
of time. Although I think Australia ARE getting gold again.
Thanks, link121
Yep no gold for Euros, the ozzies
will probably get gold again. Jammy gits.
What? I have to play in a boring
grey cartidge? Are you kidding? Aghh...damn it!!!!
I love my golden catridge
with that 3-D label, oh yeah! it looks so....Zelda.... aahhh...
Stinks to be them! Doesn't it?
Skulltula help
hello staff of htloz, I like this site a lot.you guys have done
a great job. My question is this.where do i get the mask of truth.
i know its in a skulltulah house but which one and where is it
be specific please.also i read the walkthrough and
the mask getting section.so please help thanks for you're time.
Zelly
ESPIO It's in the skultulla house in
Southern Swamp.
A hard question...
hey, just woundering how do you get on the htloz staff? Jakester
Don't make Wolfhang get
the credit card form out again...
You have to pass our "Five Tests
Of Destiny" and all involve fighting fire creatures or suffering
the worst tortures ever. Many have perished trying, but once
you get in here you can help us with the evil plot to take over
da' world!
Well, first you must travel around the
world searching for a htloz symbol, following some clues we give
to you while you fight with a blue crocodile and a furry pink
snake. Then, and only then you will be able to take our hardest
test, a math exam!!! Most of the applicants run desperately in
this part. If you pass with an A, you will be considered as a
possible staff member. I repeat, possible.
Run otuside in the middle of a blizzard
while wearing only your swimsuit for two hours. No, to be serious,
just, wait, send things for us to use. I started off by making
a walkthrough for Zelda 1 for HTLOZ. Then I was accepted, after
many months. :)
Don't
pay attention to these guys, just send me a check and we'll talk.
Help with Postman's challenge
I was taking the Postman's 10 second challenge, where you have
to time 10 seconds exactly right, and usually when you ask to
take the challenge, a timer appears and then dissapears after
4 seconds have gone by. If you wear the bunny hood when you ask
him about the challenge, the timer will actually stay up for
you. Vegita5678
I found this site as I was looking
for info on Majora's Mask (awesome game). It is the best, and
perhaps the biggest Zelda site I've come across. So I thought
I would share an interesting incident with you. One time when
I went to fight Gannon in Link to the past, I went down the hole,
but instead of falling into the room with Gannon, I fell into
a room with about 20 blue rupees, and one of those message tiles
on the back wall. The message said "I'm Troy, one of the
programmers. Don't tell this to anyone." WELL IT'S NOT LIKE
I KNEW WHAT I DID! I was wondering if this had happened to anybody
else. I tried a few more times to duplicate what I did before
falling down the hole, but it never worked. I not sure if this
is "no big secret", but it's been itching at me in
the back of my mind for about 7 years. Someone tell me I'm not
crazy. matthew
You're not crazy. There
are many secret rooms like that one in Zelda: A Link to the Past.
